Oceans has been around since 2014 and has the audience: a social timeline, photo sharing, and its own S1 Supersonic computer. MyDivingSites is smaller and newer. Where it's different is the log itself: it reconciles Shearwater, Suunto, and Mares dives into one history, and it scores tide and current for the water we dive.
| MyDivingSites | Oceans | |
|---|---|---|
| Price for divers | Free Basic tier, no card. A paid Advanced tier adds agency formats, Bluetooth sync, and offline mode. | The app is free. Oceans also sells its own dive computer, the S1 Supersonic. |
| Track record | New and small: a platform built in the Puget Sound, with a young community. | Founded in 2014, with Fabien Cousteau as a partner and advisor and a following of 40,000+ on social media. |
| Social features and photos | Share dives, sites, condition reports, creature sightings, and photos, with visibility set per dive. | A social timeline, check-ins, photo sharing, and AI photo correction. |
| Dive computers | Merges Shearwater, Suunto, and Mares dives into one history. Bluetooth sync for Shearwater today (Suunto and Mares are being verified), plus UDDF, DL7, FIT, and Apple Health import. | Syncs with its own S1 Supersonic. Merging dives from several brands isn't something we found on their public site. |
| Tide, current, and weather scoring | Scoring that puts tide and current first, which is what decides a Pacific Northwest dive: slack carries most of the score. Presets for warm-water and Great Lakes diving too. | We didn't find this on their public site. |
